Photo Narrative November 2014

|| SetTheScene ||

a note:
 With this project I decided to do something a little different than the usual "travel" narrative. I did not like the stress caused by trying to find an interesting subject around town to base an entire story around, so I came up with the idea of, so to speak, an internal travel story. I wanted to focus mostly around my home and myself and my time spent doing nothing in particular. It may not be too terribly interesting, but it's the only thing I feel I am familiar enough with to make a story out of. So here I am, standing unsure how to pose myself, in front of my home. Come on in.

a note:
Music is one of the most important parts of my life because it is what drives me to create and inspires me to get up off my ass and go do something worthwhile. In my room I always have music playing, pictured above is one of my favorite Zeppelin records. My mother gave me this record, along with many other classics in her collection, so although we don't always see eye to eye I must credit her for having a pretty solid taste in music. Below is a photo of my beloved pair of torn up and slightly vandalized Converse. I've stepped over so many different places with these laced to my feet, I feel like they carry a little piece of me with them. From being smashed under docs at sweaty punk shows to sludging though muck in rainy horse corrals, these kicks have seen it all.

a note:
I was going to retake this because it seemed a little awkward and too posed, but then I decided against it because what the heck, it's still pretty alright.

|| People in the Landscape ||

a note:
I know, I know, these specific shots weren't supposed to be portraits, but hear me out. Within the subject "people in the landscape" I feel that the people are what make the scene, and therefore I wanted to capture moments I shared with people I love in a home that would't be the same without them. I liked getting up close with these photos. The first is of my best friend, Dagny, after she trimmed my undercut in my garage, and let me tell you, that girl has got a personality even more colorful and exciting than her shoe collection. The second is a photo I really like because I caught my mother in a genuinely good mood. She started bugging me early one morning while I was, for some reason, trying to photograph my breakfast at the table by the window. She picked up my food and started playing with it, trying to make me laugh and so I picked up my camera and shot some silly photos. The last one I included in this set is another picture of Dagny. I really love this shot because I feel it symbolizes how easliy her presence lights up my room. Even when we are doing two separate things, we simply enjoy each other's company. She is so patient with me and never seems to mind my camera constantly in her face, and I owe a part of my growth as a photographer to her ideas and willingness to nurture my sparks of creativity.

  a note:
It took a bit of courage to add this one to the set, because I feel like it shows me in an environment that I don't share with other people. One night I decided to take photos of myself being silly and
playing my guitar and jumping around my room. Don't take it too seriously, just me having a little fun.

  3. One thing i can tall about your work is that it all appears very vintage-esk and has dull colors. But overall the work is great and adds character to your photos.

  5. Everything you do is awesome and amazing o: The idea behind all of this is really cool, and it all comes together really nicely. I'm not sure if this was intentional, but I liked that there was constantly a slight color scheme of greens and purples. Nice job :)
